GlobeThe globe that hangs above the staircase at the Main Library captures the Earth's surface because it is based on a NASA satellite image. The globe enables us to see what astronauts see when they circle the Earth from outer space. The globe is is suspended and runs by motor to revolve just as the Earth does.

Libraries rely on volunteers for many of the "behind-the-shelves" tasks that require attention to detail and love of the library.  From teenagers to seniors, volunteers are sought at any age and ability.  Call Phyllis Elam at (586) 226-5007 for more information or download our applications here:

How To Become A Volunteer
The first step in the process is to fill out an application and turn it in at any one of our locations. We will try to match your skill set with our needs and you will receive a follow-up call regarding what opportunities are available.
Volunteer of the Year 2009
The Clinton-Macomb Public Library would like to recognize Marian her time and talent over the past year. Marian volunteered over 420 hours of her time to book sale setup this past year. Thank you to Marian and all our volunteers for all that you do!
Current Volunteering Needs
  • Gift shop workers - Help staff the Main Library's store.
  • Book sale helpers - duties include publicity, sorting, setting up and selling.
  • Shelf readers - adopt a shelf and keep it in correct order.
  • Special program helpers - Find your niche by staffing registration tables, seasonal events, speaker arrangements, refreshments and hospitality.
  • Share your talent or hobby by helping to facilitate a program for fellow residents.
  • Greeters - Assist patrons by helping them find reference desks, sections of the library and more.
  • Green Thumbs - Help care for the plants in and around the Main Library and South Branch. The Main Library offers the opportunity to work indoors or outdoors.
