The globe that hangs above the staircase at the Main Library captures the Earth's surface because it is based on a NASA satellite image. The globe enables us to see what astronauts see when they circle the Earth from outer space. The globe is is suspended and runs by motor to revolve just as the Earth does.

Volunteers provide the library with much-needed assistance and support. Find out how you
can share your time and talents with the library. One way to get involved is to become a Friend
of the Library. The Friends of CMPL is a nonprofit volunteer
organization dedicated to improving library services through
underwriting programs and special projects. Another option is to simply volunteer your time doing "behind the shelves" tasks, like working at the Library Gift Store or shelf reading.
