Macomb County Library
All residents of Macomb County are able to check out materials from the
Macomb County Library located at the intersection of Hall and Garfield
Roads. The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is not part of the Macomb County
Library. Public libraries are funded locally, and most of the communities
of Macomb County have voted for tax levies to fund local libraries, such
as Mount Clemens and Sterling Heights. Harrison Township and Ray Township
currently do not levy taxes for local library service.
Clinton-Macomb Public Library
Previously, residents of Clinton Township and Macomb Township faced a
similar dilemma as Ray and Harrison Townships. In 1998, residents of these
two communities voted to form a combined district library with a perpetual
funding level of one mill. This gave residents access to 20 libraries in
Macomb County. In 1999, an ambitious library construction program was
launched with three buildings being constructed: the South Branch on
Gratiot Avenue near Metro Parkway in 2000, the North Branch on 24 Mile
Road near Romeo Plank, and the Main Library in 2003 at the corner of Romeo
Plank and Canal.
As residents of Harrison and Ray Townships further
recognize the value of local public library service, it’s possible that a
long-term option can be put in place. For example, services could be
offered to residents by a contractual agreement with a neighboring library
system, or a new library could be built from the ground up. Such requests
should be directed to your local township officials. |
