Academic libraries
Academic and research libraries contain much of the
world's resources of knowledge with vast collections spanning millions
of volumes, digitized images, microforms, original works and more. In
fact, large university libraries can easily add several hundreds of
thousands of items to their collections each year!
Academic
librarians often have faculty status, which in turn can bring
requirements such as publishing, continuing education credits and
presenting research papers in order to obtain tenure. Larger academic
libraries offer the opportunity to become a subject specialist
meaning that you become responsible for a collection of materials in
a specific area, such as African art or Medieval studies.
Academic libraries
also offer excellent opportunities for students to earn money while
living on campus with page and library assistant positions.
