LibraryCareers.org started as an idea developed from ALA's
Recruitment Assembly in 2004. It made its public debut in June 2005.
Larry Neal, Clinton-Macomb
Public Library, MI, created the original concept of this site and
developed much of the content. He remains inspired by the excellent work
of Connie Paul's work on the
Become A Librarian website
as well as Priscilla Shontz's
LIScareer.com website.
Julie Brewer, University of Delaware Library,
played a key role in getting approval and funding from the ALA Board to proceed with
this project in 2004. She also created the Recruitment Clearinghouse portion of
this site.
Cheryl Bryan, South East Massachusetts
Library System, and Claudia Sumler, Camden County Public Library,
NJ, offered helpful support via their work chairing ALA's Recruitment
Assembly. Lorelle Swader and Beatrice Calvin from ALA's
Office of Human Resources Development and Recruitment helped move the
project forward. Christine Velez from ALA's
Production Services created the design for the site.
