ACADEMIC MEMBERS

We would like to encourage you to vote for Christine Lind Hage for ALA President and to share our thinking about why she would be good for ALA, ACRL, and our profession.

Christine has demonstrated a lifetime commitment to libraries.  As a student she worked in both academic and public libraries.  She has managed both reference and circulation units, served as the director of three large public library systems, and taught in an ALA-accredited MLS program as well as a library technician training program at a community college.  Presently Christine is the director of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library.

Christine has been an ALA member since 1971.  She has served as president of PLA, multiple terms as a Councilor, and as a chair and member of several ALA committees.  Christine is an “idea person” who listens attentively to the thoughts of others and balances those with the needs of the larger group.  She is unafraid to ask the difficult questions and has a demonstrated commitment to furthering the discussion of how to advance librarianship and our professional association.

These are some of the reasons why we are supporting Christine and hope that you will too:

-She is committed to libraries: under her presidency, ALA will stay sharply focused on issues of importance to libraries and librarians.

-She is vibrant, energetic, and articulate: she will make an excellent spokesperson for ALA.

-She is well informed about both information technology and technology policy (hence her appointment to the OITP Advisory Committee), and she has a strong interest in both.

-She believes deeply in the importance of 21st century literacies: in fact, this will be her presidential platform.

-She has excellent positions on both copyright and intellectual freedom-very important issues for academic librarians as outlined on her Web site.

-She is committed to excellent benefits and salaries for librarians and library workers-the staff in her library are some of the best paid in the state of Michigan and they have a full benefits package.

-She is ethical, honest, direct-and a very good listener.

We hope that you will join us in voting for Christine Lind Hage. We also encourage you to discuss her candidacy with your colleagues and staff.

If we can answer any questions, please let us know, and don't hesitate to contact her yourself (Christine@cmpl.org).

Thanks for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Barbra & Charles
